Made from natural granite sand, JBL Sansibar Dark features a fine grain size of approximately 0.2–0.6 mm. Its smooth, rounded grains are gentle on the sensitive barbels of bottom-dwelling fish, including Corydoras catfish and loaches. The fine, dense substrate also helps prevent waste and organic debris from sinking deeply into the sand, making routine aquarium maintenance easier.

JBL Sansibar Dark is suitable for freshwater and saltwater aquariums, as well as terrariums. Its water-neutral properties help prevent the release of unwanted pollutants, hardness-increasing substances and silicates into aquarium water when used as directed.

The fine sand provides support for plant roots and can be used in planted aquariums. For plants with higher nutrient requirements, JBL recommends using a suitable nutrient-rich substrate underneath the sand.
