Bravecto Flea and Tick Treatment for Small Dogs

Bravecto Chew for Very Small Dogs is an oral flea and tick treatment for dogs weighing 2 kg to 4.5 kg. Each chew contains 112.5 mg of fluralaner and provides approximately 3 months of flea and tick protection from one dose.

Active ingredient

Fluralaner – 112.5 mg

Fluralaner is a systemic insecticide and acaricide. After the dog eats the chew, fluralaner is absorbed into the bloodstream and tissue fluids. Fleas and ticks are exposed to fluralaner when they feed on the treated dog.

The chew is flavoured with hydrolysed pork protein. Dogs with known food allergies should have the product discussed with a veterinarian before use.

What does it protect against?

Bravecto Chew is indicated for:

• Fleas

• Cattle ticks (Haemaphysalis longicornis)

• Ear mites (Otodectes cynotis)

• Demodex mites

• Sarcoptic mange mites (Sarcoptes scabiei var. canis)

• Helps control flea allergy dermatitis

• Indirectly reduces the risk of flea tapeworm (Dipylidium caninum) by controlling fleas.

How to give it

Give one whole 112.5 mg chewable tablet to a dog weighing 2–4.5 kg.

• Give it at or around mealtime.

• It can be given directly to the dog or with food.

• The chew should not be divided to create a partial dose.

• For continuing flea and tick protection, repeat every 3 months.

Flea control

Bravecto starts killing existing fleas quickly. According to the NZ manufacturer, after treatment it kills 99% of fleas within 8 hours and 100% within 12 hours. It also kills newly emerged fleas before they can lay eggs, helping break the flea life cycle.

Swimming and bathing

Because this is an oral treatment, swimming, bathing, shampooing and brushing do not reduce its effectiveness.

Puppies

Bravecto Chew can be used in puppies from 8 weeks of age that weigh at least 2 kg. Fast-growing puppies should be weighed regularly because they may move into a different weight category during the treatment period.

The 112.5 mg tablet is specifically for dogs from 2 kg up to 4.5 kg.

Important notes

Bravecto Chew is not a general intestinal wormer. While controlling fleas indirectly reduces transmission of flea tapeworm, it does not provide the same broad internal-worm coverage as a dedicated worming product. NZ now also has Bravecto 1-Month Triple, which combines flea/tick and certain gastrointestinal worm protection, but it has a different formulation and dosing schedule.
