Plecostomus, a peaceful freshwater fish from the Amazon Basin, is ideal for large, well-planted aquariums. Adults can reach up to 40 cm in length and thrive in community tanks with plenty of hiding spaces created by driftwood, rocks, and plants.

Tank Setup & Environment

• Minimum Tank Size: 400 L for adult Plecostomus

• Planted aquarium with hearty, fast-growing plants

• High aeration and water movement

• Rocks, driftwood, and hiding places to reduce stress

• Large mud walls or tunnels required for spawning (not yet achieved in captivity)

Diet & Feeding

• Omnivorous; feeds primarily off algae and leftover foods on the aquarium bottom

• Supplement diet with:

  • High-quality flake food

  • Sinking carnivore pellets

  • Freeze-dried bloodworms

  • Tubifex

• Not a picky eater
