The PetSafe Electronic SmartDoor Small is an electronic pet door designed to give selected pets controlled access to your home. Instead of using a traditional magnetic key, it works with a SmartKey collar key that communicates with the door. When an authorised pet approaches, the door automatically unlocks; once the pet moves away, the door locks again. This helps prevent other pets or unwanted animals from entering.

How the SmartKey System Works

The supplied SmartKey attaches to your pet’s collar. Each SmartKey has a unique electronic signal.

When your pet wearing a programmed key approaches the SmartDoor, the door detects the key and unlocks. Your pet can then push through the flap. Once the key moves away from the detection area, the locking mechanism engages again.

This makes the SmartDoor particularly useful if you want to:

• Keep stray animals outside.

• Allow one pet access while restricting another.

• Give pets independent access to the outdoors.

• Control pet movement during different times of the day.

• Allow selected pets through while keeping the door electronically secured.

Small Size Specifications

The manufacturer’s sizing information lists the small flap opening as 5½ × 7⅞ inches, with a frame size of 9 × 15⅝ inches and a cut-out of 8⅜ × 14¾ inches.

Battery Powered

The Electronic SmartDoor operates using four D-cell batteries. The batteries power the electronic detection and locking system, so there is no permanent electrical connection required for a standard installation.

A low-battery indicator helps alert you when the batteries need replacing.

Installation

The SmartDoor Small is designed for installation in suitable exterior doors. It can be installed in standard doors approximately 1½–2 inches thick, depending on the installation surface and configuration.

A cutting template is supplied to help position and cut the opening correctly.

A wall installation kit is available separately for wall installations. Metal doors should be avoided where possible because metal can interfere with the electronic signal between the SmartDoor and SmartKey.

The SmartKey must be attached securely to your pet’s collar. The electronic door relies on the SmartKey’s signal for selective access.

For installation, always use the supplied cutting template and check the dimensions carefully before cutting the door.
