Red whiptail catfish

The Red Whiptail Catfish, also known as the Red Lizard Whiptail Catfish, is a peaceful freshwater species that thrives in community tanks with other non-aggressive fish and invertebrates.

Tank Mates

• Small fish: Tetras, Rasboras, Danios

• Peaceful cichlids: Dwarf cichlids like Apistogramma or Mikrogeophagus, and Angelfish

• Bottom dwellers: Corydoras catfish (small schools)

• Invertebrates: Snails and shrimp

• Avoid: Aggressive or predatory fish, boisterous feeders, and fin-nipping species like Tiger Barbs

Tank Setup

• Quiet, softwater planted aquariums

• Plenty of hiding spots using plants, driftwood, slate caves, and PVC pipes

• Gentle water movement with efficient filtration

Water Conditions

• Temperature: 24–28°C (76–82°F)

• pH: 6.8–7.6

• Nitrate levels: Keep low with regular water changes
