White cloud mountain minnows can be paired with peaceful, similarly sized fish that live in similar conditions. They are generally peaceful and can be good starter fish for beginners.
- Shrimp: A peaceful fish that enjoys cooler water
- Danios: A peaceful fish that enjoys cooler water
- Smaller killifish: A peaceful fish that enjoys cooler water
- Emperor tetras: A unique-looking fish that can give white cloud mountain minnows a fun time in the tank
- Temperature: White cloud mountain minnows prefer cooler temperatures, between 17–20°C. Water temperatures above 22°C can shorten their lifespan.
- pH: The pH level of the water should be between 6–8.
- Hardness: The water hardness should be between 5–25 dH.
- Lighting: White cloud mountain minnows like to hide in vegetation, so the tank should have fine-leaved plants.
- Water flow: White cloud mountain minnows enjoy mild currents, so a wave maker can be added to the tank.
- The minimum tank size for white cloud mountain minnows is 10–12 gallons.
- A separate breeding tank can increase the chances of successful breeding.
