Advantage Flea Treatment for Medium Dogs (10-25kg)

Advantage® for Dogs 10–25 kg is a monthly topical spot-on flea treatment containing imidacloprid. It kills adult fleas through contact, so fleas do not need to bite your dog before being killed. It also kills flea larvae in the dog’s surroundings and treats lice on dogs.

Product description

Advantage® is designed for dogs weighing 10–25 kg. Each pack contains 4 individual applicator tubes, providing approximately 4 months of monthly flea protection when used as directed.

Unlike oral flea treatments, Advantage is applied directly to the skin. The active ingredient spreads over the dog’s skin and coat in the natural oily layer rather than being absorbed into the bloodstream.

What does Advantage treat?

Advantage helps control:

• Adult fleas

• Flea larvae

• Flea infestations in the environment

• Lice on dogs

It helps break the flea life cycle because imidacloprid is shed from the treated dog’s skin and coat, where it can kill flea larvae in the surrounding environment.

How does it work?

After application, imidacloprid spreads across the dog’s skin and coat. Fleas are killed when they come into contact with the treated skin or coat—the flea does not have to bite the dog first.

Imidacloprid acts on the flea’s nervous system, causing neuromuscular stimulation, paralysis and death.

Advantage can act quickly, with fleas beginning to be killed within about 20 minutes, while flea biting can be stopped within approximately 3–5 minutes.

Application / Directions

For a dog weighing 10–25 kg:

1. Remove one applicator tube from the package.

2. Hold the tube upright and remove the cap.

3. Reverse the cap and use it to break the seal.

4. Have the dog standing for application.

5. Part the hair between the shoulder blades until the skin is clearly visible.

6. Place the applicator tip directly onto the skin.

7. Squeeze the tube firmly twice, applying the entire contents directly onto the skin.

8. Avoid the dog’s eyes and mouth.

9. Record the treatment date.

10. Repeat monthly or as directed on the product label.

How long does one treatment last?

One application provides approximately 4 weeks of flea control. In cases of heavy flea infestation, the manufacturer notes that retreatment within a month may sometimes be necessary.

Bathing and swimming

Frequent bathing or swimming can shorten the duration of flea control. If bathing your dog, it is recommended to bathe before applying Advantage and allow the dog to dry thoroughly before application.

Puppies, pregnancy and lactation

Advantage is stated by Elanco NZ to be suitable for puppies from any age and can be used in pregnant and lactating animals, when used according to the label directions.

Important precautions

• For dogs only. Do not use the dog formulation on cats.

• Use the 10–25 kg formulation only for dogs in that weight range.

• Avoid contact with the treated area until it has completely dried.

• Keep children away from the application site until dry.

• Avoid contact with the dog’s eyes and mouth.

• The solvent can potentially mark plastics, leather, fabrics and finished surfaces, so allow the application site to dry before contact with these materials.

• Store below 30°C and keep out of reach of children.
