Bravecto Flea and Tick Chewable Tablet for Large Dogs

Bravecto Chew for Very Large/X-Large Dogs is an oral flea and tick treatment containing fluralaner. The correct chew for dogs weighing more than 40 kg and up to 56 kg contains 1,400 mg of fluralaner and provides 3 months of flea and tick protection from a single chew.

Bravecto Chew also contains flavouring, including hydrolysed pork protein. If your dog has a known food allergy, consult your veterinarian before use.

What does Bravecto treat?

Bravecto Chew is indicated for the treatment and control of:

• Fleas

• Cattle ticks (Haemaphysalis longicornis)

• Ear mites (Otodectes cynotis)

• Demodex mites

• Sarcoptic mange (Sarcoptes scabiei var. canis)

• Flea allergy dermatitis (FAD) as part of flea control

• Fipronil-resistant fleas

Effective flea control also indirectly reduces transmission of flea tapeworm (Dipylidium caninum).

How it works

Fluralaner is absorbed into the dog’s blood and tissue fluids after the chew is administered. When fleas or ticks feed on the treated dog, they ingest fluralaner and are killed.

Bravecto is systemic, so bathing, swimming, shampooing and brushing do not reduce its effectiveness.

How to administer

For a dog weighing >40–56 kg:

1. Weigh the dog to confirm its current weight.

2. Give one complete 1,400 mg chew.

3. Give the chew at or around mealtime.

4. The chew can be given directly or with food.

5. Do not divide the chew between dogs.

6. Repeat treatment every 3 months for continuous flea and tick protection.

Flea control

Bravecto works rapidly against existing fleas. The manufacturer states that following treatment it kills 99% of fleas within 8 hours and 100% within 12 hours. Newly emerged fleas are killed before they can lay eggs, helping break the flea life cycle.

Puppies and breeding dogs

Bravecto Chew can be used in puppies from 8 weeks of age weighing at least 2 kg. The NZ manufacturer states that it can also be used in breeding, pregnant and lactating dogs, and is suitable for MDR1 breeds.

Dogs over 56 kg

If the dog weighs more than 56 kg, do not use the 40–56 kg chew alone. The manufacturer recommends using a combination of two chews that most closely matches the dog’s body weight.

Important precautions

• For dogs only. Bravecto Chew is not approved for cats.

• Always weigh the dog before selecting the appropriate strength.

• Do not substitute the 1,400 mg chew for a dog below the specified weight range.

• Give the chew orally only.

• If your dog has a food allergy, check the ingredients with your veterinarian because the chew contains hydrolysed pork protein.
