Otocinclus Catfish, or “Otos,” are small, peaceful freshwater fish that grow 1.5–2 inches and are known for their algae-eating abilities. They thrive in mature, stable, and well-planted aquariums.

• Heavily planted tanks with plenty of hiding spaces

• Established algae growth for natural feeding

• Standard community tank lighting

• Gentle water movement with well-filtered water

Water Conditions

• Temperature: 72–79°F (22–26°C)

• pH: 6.8–7.5

• Water Quality: Ammonia and Nitrites 0 ppm, low Nitrates

• Conduct regular partial water changes; avoid sudden parameter shifts

Diet

• Feeds on soft algae on tank surfaces

• Supplements: algae wafers, occasional fresh vegetables like zucchini (observe interest)

Tank Mates

• Peaceful community fish such as Corydoras catfish

• Freshwater shrimp and snails, including Ramshorn and Mystery Snails

• Avoid aggressive or boisterous fish

Care Notes

• Delicate species; highest survival in established aquariums
