The PetSafe Microchip Installation Adaptor is an accessory designed to make it easier and more reliable to install the PetSafe Microchip Cat Door in surfaces where a standard installation is not suitable. It is especially useful for metal or metal-core doors, glass doors and windows, and wall installations.

Where It Can Be Used

The adaptor is particularly useful when installing the PetSafe Microchip Cat Door into:

• Metal doors

• Metal-core doors

• Glass doors

• Glass windows

• Other installations where additional mounting support is required

For wall installations, the adaptor is required, and tunnel extensions may also be necessary depending on the thickness of the wall. Each compatible tunnel extension adds approximately 2 inches (50 mm) of additional length.

Glass Compatibility

The adaptor is designed for circular glass openings approximately 212–285 mm in diameter. PetSafe specifies a 260 mm diameter opening for double-glazed glass when using the adaptor.

For glass installation, PetSafe recommends using a professional glazier or glass specialist. Tempered and double-pane glass generally cannot be cut after manufacture, so the opening needs to be planned appropriately.

Metal Door Installation

Metal can interfere with the microchip reader and reduce its reading performance. The PetSafe adaptor is specifically recommended when installing the Microchip Cat Door into a metal or metal-core door. It creates separation between the cat door’s electronic components and the surrounding metal, helping the reader work more effectively.

Wall Installation

When installing the Microchip Cat Door through a wall, the adaptor provides additional support for securing the interior and exterior frames. If the wall is thicker than the cat door’s standard tunnel length, additional tunnel extensions can be added.

PetSafe states that the Microchip Cat Door can be installed in walls up to approximately 2.75 inches (70 mm) without additional tunnel extensions; thicker walls may require extensions.

Important Installation Note

The tunnel that forms part of the Microchip Cat Door should not be cut or modified. Electronic components are contained within the tunnel, and cutting it can affect the functionality and microchip-reading performance of the cat door.

The adaptor itself does not replace the Microchip Cat Door; the cat door is sold separately.
